Dental Crowns in Hermitage

What are Dental Crowns?

A dental crown is specifically designed to restore a damaged or compromised tooth. Whether a tooth has broken, cracked or has a large filling that needs to be replaced, a crown can be used to restore the tooth to its original shape and size. We offer ceramic and porcelain crowns that look and feel completely natural. Our same-day CEREC crowns are ideal for patients who do not want to come back for a second appointment just to have the permanent crown placed.

Why would a Dental Crown be needed?

There are several reasons for needing a new dental crown. Most often, a crown is necessary if a tooth has cracked, broken or fractured. In order to get the tooth looking and feeling like normal, a crown can be placed over the top of it. If you’ve recently had a root canal, we will typically recommend that the tooth be crowned because it is more susceptible to breaking. In some instances, an older filling may need to be replaced and is too large, so a crown is a better option when compared to another filling.

Who is a candidate for a Dental Crown?

With the help of an exam, we can help in determining if you might need a new dental crown. The crown procedure is quite simple and straightforward, so it is ideal for patients of all ages. If you have an older crown, it might need to be replaced as it begins to show signs of wear or damage. With a new crown, you can expect it to last for many years or even a few decades.

What happens during the Dental Crown procedure?

The crown procedure begins by filing down the damaged tooth. This helps to get rid of any cracked or broken areas and to make enough room for the crown to sit on top. Once this is done, we will take impressions and use these molds to craft a new porcelain or ceramic crown. The crown is then placed at a second appointment.
